43rd Annual General Assembly (AGA): The 2010 Interline Celebration
Delegate Credential Form
The deadline for submitting the 43rd AGA Delegate Credential Form has now passed. A total of 29 Forms have been received and some e-mails have been received advising that their Forms are in the post. Not all Member Clubs that responded will be sending a delegate to the AGA so until the Forms in the post are received , and an exact count of duly paid member Clubs has been undertaken, it is not known if there will be a quorum. The information contained in the Forms submitted by the Clubs is being extracted and any proposed changes to the Constitution and Bylaws will be included in the 43rd AGA Agenda.
Digital Signature
You may have noticed that messages sent from Headquarters now have a digital signature. This is an enhanced security feature that has been implemented by IATA to ensure messages received by the recipient sent from IATA are authentic. Member Clubs have, however, encountered difficulties when trying to forward messages from Headquarters that have attachments. To avoid this problem, when forwarding messages with attachments, remove the signature which has the suffix .p7s.
Grand Venture Bonanza
The winner of the package for one (based on double occupancy) at The 2010 Interline Celebration in Recife, Brazil, from 17-22 October donated by the Interline Club of Portugal, will not unfortunately be able to accept the prize because illness in his department at work prevents him from being released from his duties. The draw was, therefore, made again today by IATA Project Manager, Tatiana Tarassova. There were 813 tickets in the draw and the lucky winner is Inka Gilardoni from the Interairline Club Zurich with ticket number 1639. Congratulations.
Tatiana also made the fifth draw of 2010 for a cash prize of USD 100.00 donated by the Sydney Interline Club and the lucky winner is Madeleine Roos-Meyer from the Interairline Club Zurich with ticket number 4247. Congratulations.
Next Draw
The remaining 811 tickets will now be included in the next draw which is expected to be in mid-September for a cash prize of USD 100.00 donated by the WACA.
August Newsletter
V.P. International Events and Special Projects, Elaine Miller, sends the following message for August.
I can’t believe we are already past the middle of August and before we know it October will be here and we will once again be on our way to our 43rd Interline Celebration and Annual General Assembly in Recife, Brazil. Our opening ceremonies should be a spectacular event and will be held in the Opera House.
For those who require visas to visit Brazil, you should have received your invitation letters for WACA from the Interline Club of Portugal (ICP). Be sure to submit all the required documentation to the nearest Brazilian Consulate so you receive your visa promptly. Be sure to read carefully the FACTS and TIPS guideline sent out by the ICP earlier. There are good suggestions and information to help make our visit to Brazil a pleasant experience. Also, pay attention to health concerns, if you are coming from or visiting areas where you need inoculations. It might be a good idea to have photocopies of your passports.
I would also like to remind you about the 15% discount, negotiated by the ICP, with GOL (Linhas Aereas G3) for our travel in and out of Recife. They are one of Brazil’s largest no-frills carriers. You will need the promotional code: (E003-10 REC). They have also relaxed the baggage allowance to 2 bags weighing 23kg each.
As we prepare for Recife, I would like to remind everyone about what to bring for our Charity, Tombola, and 50/50. As mentioned in my last newsletter, our charity this year, as chosen by the ICP, will be the crèche of the “Centro Cultural and Society Severinas located in Orlinda. There are approximately 50 children ages 1 to 3 years. It is suggested to bring baby items of toys, diapers, clothing (suitable for a tropical climate), picture books, toiletries, etc. I know you will once again show your great compassion and generosity for the children.
It is our tradition to have a 50/50 draw and it will be held the night of the Gala Dinner. This year we will have only one winner and tickets will be sold throughout the week.
Our “Tombola” will once again be our main fund raiser and will be held on the Thursday night, after the AGA and in conjunction with the seafood dinner at our hotel. This is always a fun event and a good way to raise funds for our organization. I depend on everyone to bring nice, interesting prizes, something you would like to win. I hesitate putting a value on what to bring, but ask that you give it careful thought and make your donations special. The nicer the prizes the more tickets we can sell and everyone can have a fun evening. This year it will take the form of a “Straw Draw”. If you could include a gift bag for your prize, it would be greatly appreciated. Remember the success of the Tombola depends on the number and quality of the prizes donated by you, our members. I thank you in advance for your kindness and help.
It is preferred that the form of currency we use for the 50/50 and the Tombola is the United States dollar.
We plan to have a drop off area near the registration to collect the charity items and Tombola donations. We hope to sell 50/50 tickets at that time also.
I understand it will be very warm and humid in Brazil, so don’t put away your summer clothes yet. The opening ceremonies should be semi-formal and the Gala more formal, so put your best dress or suit and tie and plan to have a great time. If you have any concerns you can get in touch with me or the ICP.
