42nd Annual General Assembly (AGA): The 2009 Interline Celebration
Registrations
There are now 260 interliners registered for the 2009 Interline Celebration says Secretary General, Julian Chau. Registrations are still being received so Julian is projecting that there will be at least 280 participants. One note of caution, however, unless WACA has received the duly completed registration forms and deposits (including Club guarantees), WACA will not be able to reserve the rooms at the hotel.
Payment
Interliners are reminded that only the deposit is to be paid in United States dollars with the balance of payment due in Ringgits upon arrival. For reference purposes only, at the current rate of exchange, the total package price is around USD 720.00.
Programme
Attached is a comprehensive Programme Plan compiled by Julian which provides vital information about arrival procedures, meeting venues, etc. as well as outlining the major aspects of the AGA. [info}
Arrival
All participants are asked to provide their arrival details to Julian as soon as possible as he needs to plan for either buses or vans to transport interliners to the hotel: julian_chau@cathaypacific.com.
On Sale
T-Shirts, name tag lanyards and beach towels with the WACA logo will all be on sale at the AGA so plan to buy an item and help generate some much needed revenue for the Association.
Grand Venture Bonanza
And the Winner is ...
The fifth draw of 2009 for a cash prizes of USD 100.00 donated by WACA was made today by IATA Telephony Administrator, Cathy Gallup. There were 1,242 tickets in the draw and the lucky winner is Helene Larway from the Calgary Interline Club with ticket number 24560. Congratulations.
Next Draw
The remaining 1,241 tickets will now be included in the next draw of 2009 to be held in mid-September which has been donated by the Interairline Club Zurich for one package for two people on Sunday, 6 December to its Christmas Party. Details about all the 2009 Grand Venture Bonanza prizes can be found of the WACA Web site in the News and Press Releases section: /waca/news.
August Newsletter
V.P. International Events and Special Projects, Elaine Miller, sends the following message for August.
The calendar tells me we are almost at the end of August. That means only one more month before we will all be leaving our various countries to meet together in Kuala Lumpur for our 42nd Interline Celebration and Annual General Assembly.
As we prepare to pack for our long journey, there are reminders and items I would like to bring to your attention.
Our Opening Ceremonies will be attended by a representative from the Malaysian Tourist Board. I have previously requested that each RVP make sure each country in their Region brings its national national flag to be used in our Parade of Flags at the Opening Ceremony. As we will not have available to us a uniformed organisation to present the flags, I am requesting you appoint a WACA member in each of your regions to carry the flags. We would plan to have a rehearsal on 4 October at 1300, if we can use the Royal Ballroom. I will advise later if this must change. It is important for as many flag carriers as possible, with their flags, to be available at that time. Please advise me, either before you leave for KUL or soon after arrival, who will be the designated people. I plan to be in KUL from 1 October.
Our Secretary General, Julian, has advised me that our planned charity will be the Rumah Kanak-Kanak Tengku Budriah Orphanage for abandoned children, as selected by the Malaysian Tourist Office. We would request donations of school supplies for the children at the orphanage. Donations of cash would also be gratefully accepted. A letter has been sent to the directors of the orphanage to arrange a meeting on October 08th to present our gifts for the children. Members are welcome to attend but should let us know.
Once again, I am appealing to clubs and individuals to bring a donation item for our “Tombola”. This replaced our former WACA Auction and proved to be a fun way to raise funds. For those who are unfamiliar with this format, my committee and I will collect your contributions, wrap them and set up a table in the dining area on the evening of 6 October (day 3). Envelopes will be sold in United States dollars as follows: 1 envelope for $2.00, 3 for $5.00 and 7 for $10.00. Inside the envelopes will be a note advising the holder they either won a numbered prize or a “sorry, try again”. If you are one of the lucky prize winners you will be able to collect your prize from the table at approximately 2100 or when advised by an announcement. In order to keep it orderly, the winning number ranges will be announced and you can claim your prize at that time. As you can see, the success of the programme depends on donations received and we hope the quality and variety of donations will add to the fun and enjoyment of the evening. So be sure to bring your money that evening. Without a ticket you won’t win!
We have also been able to arrange for sale at registration time and throughout the following days, a small quantity of WACA golf shirts. They are dark blue with a WACA logo. As well, we have beach towels with our logo. Some are blue and some white. Also there are WACA lanyards that would be useful to your clubs for different functions. A table will be set up in the registration area so you can buy a souvenir of your visit.
Our winner of the Bonanza prize to attend the 42nd Interline Celebration was Britt Akerman of the Sweden Airliners Club. We congratulate Britt and look forward to seeing her in Kuala Lumpur. Thank you to all who purchased Bonanza tickets over the last year and especially to those who were able to donate a prize. I hope we will have many more prizes for next year and encourage Clubs holding packages to endeavour to present a package to their event as a prize. Cash prizes or other interesting ideas are also welcome.
From all indications, this 42nd Interline Celebration and AGA should be a most memorable and enjoyable time for all interliners attending. So come prepared to enjoy what has been organized for you. Especially the tours and extra excursions. Bring your enthusiasm, sense of adventure and good humour. We are all looking forward to a new experience with our first ever visit to Kuala Lumpur and I am sure it will be one of our most exciting events yet. See you at The Palace Of The Golden Horses. Have a safe trip.
Obituary
It is with regret that I have to inform you that Roy Guiver of the London Interline Club passed away on Saturday, 22 August advises Nuala Boardman. Roy was known as the "English Gentleman" by so many interliners who new him from his regular attendance at WACA's AGAs. Member-at-Large Barbara Prinz adds that she had visited him only two weeks ago on his 88th birthday and he knew he had to go; he was very realistic and said goodbye for ever with a smile and passed away happy with his son at his side. Messages of condolence can be sent, and information about a special memorial service to be held on 8 September can be obtained from, Nuala: nualaboardman249@btinternet.com.
Yours in interlining,
