52nd Annual General Assembly (AGA): The WACA Africana Festival 2019
Outstanding Payments
It has been reported by the Africa, Indian Ocean Islands and Middle East (AIM) Region organising committee that some participants have outstanding payments that should now have been paid. Any participant that has transferred payments to the Mauritian bank, or sent payment to WACA Headquarters in Montreal, that has not received a confirmation of receipt should contact Joyce Pierrot: [email protected]. If a payment is being made this week or next Joyce should be informed accordingly and proof of payment must be brought to the registration desk on arrival.

AGA Package
As part of WACA’s social responsibility and philanthropic actions writes WACA President, Maga Ramasamy, the organising committee of the 52nd AGA has identified three needy causes WACA intends to support in South Africa as follows:
·         The Future People, a charity that focuses on supporting homeless people:
·         The Old Age Home, which falls under the Red Cross Society of South Africa’s umbrella;
·         The East Rand Hospice, which supports terminally ill persons.
These are three worthy causes which deserve our generous support.
It would, therefore, be greatly appreciated that participants attending the 52nd AGA support the charities above by bringing with them some or all of the following:
·         a toiletry kit consisting of a toothbrush, toothpaste, nailbrush, medium sized comb and a round hairbrush;
·         a clothing parcel consisting of two underpants for men (medium and large) and two panties for ladies (medium and large);
·         two pairs of socks for men to fit UK size 8–11, Mondo Point size 16–18 or US size 9–12.
·         a blanket if at all possible.
WACA’s members are known for their generosity and we ask all participants that this tradition be continued.
Public Relations
Public Relations Coordinator, Linda Lenters, has some reminders and details about our fund raising activities to be held during the 52nd AGA festivities.
This year we will once again have a 50/50 draw and a tombola. Last year we had many participants who helped with these fund raising activities and I would like to thank them all. This year I will be looking for volunteers to sell tickets for the 50/50 draw and beads for the tombola as well as setting up the tombola gifts and distributing the gifts to the lucky winners. If you are interested in assisting in these activities please e-mail me at [email protected] so I can organise these activities with you prior to the 52nd AGA commencing.
For members who will be attending the AGA for the first time the aim of the tombola is to have each participant bring a gift for the tombola with a minimum value of USD 10.00. With your generosity our goal is to have at least 100 wonderful gifts. Throughout the AGA we will be selling tombola “beads” and, hopefully, we will have a dedicated room where we can display the gifts to encourage everyone to buy the beads. The beads will be sold with a generous one-in-five chance of winning one of the wonderful gifts we expect to be donated. If you are one of the lucky winners with a numbered bead, you will hold onto it until all the beads have been sold. Once all the beads have been sold, the gifts will be randomly numbered and your winning number will be matched against the gift which will be your prize. The tombola is great fun and we also sell out of beads in a very short time. We are, of course, hoping to do this again this year so remember to buy early and buy lots!Tickets for the 50/50 draw and beads for the tombola will be sold at USD 2.00 each, USD 5.00 for three tickets or beads and USD 10.00 for seven tickets or beads so please remember to bring some United States dollars with you. Before sales of the tombola beads commences we need to know how many gifts have been donated. With this in mind please bring your gift to the registration room when you register. Hopefully all the gifts will be received at that time and we can start selling the tombola beads the next day.
I am excited to meet everyone in South Africa and wish you all a safe journey.
